BodyTalk and Migraines

For the 28 million people in the United States who suffer from migraine headaches every day, migraines are a debilitating affliction, costing millions in sick days, prescription drugs, and doctor visits.
Although doctors commonly prescribe powerful painkillers in an attempt to alleviate migraines in their patients, they have failed to find a cure for them, and their treatments are palliative at best.
The only "tried and true" treatment for a migraine is lying down in a dark cool room until it goes away.
Doctors do not know for sure what causes migraines, although they seem to agree that there may be several factors that contribute to them, such as:
  • Food allergies: such as nightshade vegetables, chocolate, caffeine
  • Hormones: changes in estrogen or progesterone levels
  • Stress: work, family, financial
  • Environmental factors: like changing barometric pressure or humidity
  • Pharmaceuticals: Many medications can cause migraines
  • Neurotransmitters: especially fluctuating Serotonin levels
  • Inhalants: like cigarette smoke or toxic fumes
  • Vigorous Exercise: extra-long workouts or intense training in heat
So the complicating factor in migraine headaches is that the cause of migraines in one person is probably slightly different than the cause in another person.
No wonder a cure is yet to be found! Since there can be many causes, and since each person has such an individual body chemistry makeup, the best treatment for migraines is BodyTalk.
BodyTalk is a relatively new modality that honors the fact that we are all unique individuals, and that the cause of disease is essentially a breakdown of communication in the body from some type of stress-whether it is physical, as in the case of exercise; emotional, as in the case of work/family/financial stress; environmental, as in changing atmospheric conditions; or chemical, as in food allergies or inhalants causing a chemical reaction in our body.
In BodyTalk, the practitioner to establishes a neuromuscular biofeedback system--essentially a question-and-answer dialogue with the body.
The practitioner follows a specific set of questions to determine where the problem is and how to repair it.
BodyTalk is safe, non-invasive, can be performed while the client is fully clothed, and requires no pharmaceuticals or medication.
Often, a series of treatments are required to alleviate the problem, but usually the client experiences significant improvement in their condition after the first visit.
In my experience, migraines usually involve several factors.
Some of my patients work long hours and have significant work stress, which can be challenging to manage.
However, there are several techniques in BodyTalk that can actually raise the threshold in the body's ability to handle stress.
This means the client can handle the stress better.
We can never change the world, or our husband, or our boss, or our workload.
However, we can change the way we react to it.
BodyTalk has techniques that can effectively neutralize the way we experience the stressors in our lives that cause the migraines.
Similarly, BodyTalk can neutralize our internal chemical reactions to allergens, effectively changing our relationship with them from a negative one to a positive one, even if that particular substance causing the disharmony is one of our hormones or neurotransmitters.
