International Flight Rules & Regulations
- The most important document you must have to comply with international flight regulations is a passport; this is required for travel to most countries around the world. It serves as your legal documentation.
- When flying internationally, you should check the customs regulations for your destination. They may prohibit you from bringing certain items into the country.
- On most coach-class international flights, passengers are allowed to take two pieces of checked luggage and one piece of carry-on luggage in addition to a purse or laptop case. Be sure to check with your airline for specific weight limits.
- Most airlines state that you should arrive at the airport two to three hours before your flight in order to give you time to clear security and customs.
- New travel rules state that passengers can take liquids or gels in their carry-on bags, but only if they are in 3-oz. or less bottles. They must be in a single, 1-quart clear plastic bag.
- Although it may seem obvious, passengers may not carry on knives, guns or any other sharp objects that may be used as weapons, including scissors. Even nail clippers may get confiscated.
