A Major Corporation Actually Considers Health Insurance Reform Positive

When it comes to large companies and healthcare reform, most of the sentiment has been negative.
They fear that their costs will go up, due to mandates that require them to offer coverage and pay penalties.
In addition, they must be willing to insure their employees' adult children until the age of 27.
In addition, they will lose a tax credit that helps fund their retirees' prescription drug coverage.
It is understandable that they are worried about health insurance reform cutting into their profit margins.
That is especially true as they continue crawling out of the recession.
However, one major corporation has broken ranks with its brethren.
In fact, it believes that reform will be a net positive for their business.
The company is Xerox, famous for its copier machines.
CEO Ursula Burns recently expressed her opinions in an interview.
According to Burns, their recent acquisition of ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) is the cause.
ACS is an information technology firm involved in electronic medical records.
Affordable health insurance reform includes provisions that encourage the further use of technology to promote further cooperation among doctors, hospitals, patients, and other providers.
Having all of the information in one place should result in less waste of money.
Xerox is set to benefit, because they see this trend as an income opportunity.
An increasing number of health insurance plans will utilize such services in order to increase efficiency and lower administrative costs--which will end up lowering their medical loss ratios below the federally prescribed limits.
An early sign that their optimism is well-founded recently appeared in California: ACS just won a lucrative contract with the state's Medicare Management Information Systems.
The deal will earn them $1.
6 billion.
