Reasons for Earache

    Ear damage

    Ear infections

    • Ear infections are caused when bacteria get in the inner ear through the eustachian tube, a tube that connects the ear with the back of the throat. Respiratory infections or allergies may block the tube and prevent normal drainage, allowing bacteria to grow and multiply.

    Ear Wax

    • Wax buildup in the ears can increase pressure and prevent normal drainage from occurring. Have your ears cleaned annually in your physician's office to prevent unnecessary wax buildup.

    Swimmer's Ear

    Hearing Loss

    • Earaches that are accompanied by hearing loss or a ringing in the ears could be signs of ear trauma, especially if you have suffered a head injury. Seek medical attention immediately to avoid being permanently affected.
