How to Cheer for a Team
- 1). Purchase apparel from the team, such as replica jerseys or shirts and hats with team insignias on them.
- 2). Attend games in person to cheer on the players. Live watching offers a unique atmosphere that cannot be replicated at home or at a sports bar.
- 3). Watch with a group of friends at home or visit a sports bar to watch games with other fans. Some bars are general sports bars while others are dedicated to specific teams. For example the Pittsburgh Steelers have a large network of Steeler bars where any fans are welcome but where Steeler fans in particular are encouraged to come and share the game with other fans of the team.
- 4). Sing chants with the other fans in attendance. Team chants range from simple chants like "De-Fense, De-Fense" to complex chants, popular at European football matches, where fans learn entire songs set to the tune of famous standards and sing them throughout the match.
- 5). Apply face paint when attending a live game to accent the team gear you are wearing.
- 6). Make posters with slogans of support for your team and bring them to games.
- 7). Celebrate and cheer loudly when your team makes a good play or scores. A loud stadium makes it harder for the opposing team.
- 8). Pump up the team with cheers before important plays or if the score is getting close. Players often cite the energy of a crowd helping them to fight off an opponent's comeback, or to start one of their own.
