March is here and with it comes the wonderful springtime warmth and decorum throughout Sacramento. From theatrical productions to outdoor festivals, this March is filled to the brim with fun sights and sounds for the entire family.

 

The Wizard of Oz

Crest Theatre

Sunday, March 1, 7:30pm

Come to the Crest Theatre and relive a favorite classic on the big screen again. This special screening is happening on March 1 only, and doors open at 6:30pm with the movie kicking off at 7:30.


Tickets are $10 general, $8 children and seniors. This is just one of many classic movie events held at the Crest throughout the year, so if you have a good time, consider supporting their efforts to recognize historic cinema regularly.

 

Sacramento Beer Week 5K Beer Run

New Helvetia – 1730 Broadway

Sat, March 7, 12pm-2pm

Sacramento Beer Week includes a 5K Beer Run that just gets better every year. This year’s registration fee of $35 will get you a shirt, beer caramels, a swag bag and an after party with local craft beer for all (of age drinkers, of course) to enjoy.

 

Lady Smith Black Mambazo

Crest Theatre

Tues, March 10, 7:30pm-11:30pm

The four-time Grammy winning South African male vocal group will be at the Crest Theatre for one night only, with the concert benefitting organizations working against sex trafficking. Tickets range in price from $30-$45, and a portion of each ticket sale will benefit local organization, Bridget’s Dream.

 

 The Great Cake Walk

Sacramento State Alumni Center – 6000 J St

Thurs, March 12, 5pm-8pm

This event, put on by Closing the Gap, is inviting Sacramentans for an evening of tasting treats from some of the area’s best bakeries. A live auction, celebrity guests and music provided by local high schools will round out the evening. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit this organization that works to close the achievement gap in the Sacramento area. The ticket price of $65 is equivalent to one SAT test for a student who otherwise would be unable to afford to take this essential step toward a college education.

 

Food Truck Mania: Carmichael Park

5750 Grant Ave, Carmichael

Thurs, March 5, 5pm-8pm

The SactoMoFo trucks are coming to Carmichael Park for the first Thursday of March and April. Admission is free, along with live music and more. Buy your dinner and drinks from various food trucks on site and enjoy the spring evenings with friends and family.

 

Under the Oaks Kids Camps

Effie Yeaw Nature Center – 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael

March 30-April 2, 9am-12pm

Effie Yeaw Nature Center’s spring break camps give kids an awesome opportunity to get in touch with local nature and learn important skills like safety, conservation and team building. Each day of camp has a different nature-related theme with plenty of hands-on activities like hiking, crafts and games.

Camp 5, for ages 5 only, will take place on March 31 with the theme Precious Plants. For kids aged 6-11, camp is happening daily March 30-April 2, and themes include Rise & Shine Reptiles, Give a Hoot, Buggin’ Out and Pollywog Pond. Each day of camp is $25 ($20 for nature center members).

 

Willy Wonka

Runaway Stage Productions

March 21-April 4, times vary

Join the deliciously talented cast of the Runaway Stage theatre company as they present the classic tale of Willy Wonka. Admission is only $8 general, $6 for kids, so everyone can come experience the sweet tale of a legendary candy maker and morally compromised children on a factory tour of a lifetime. Shows at noon and 2pm on Saturdays through April 4.

 

Hop-On Hop-Off Brewery Tour

Sacramento Convention Center

Feb 28-Mar 7, times vary

Come travel safely to the various breweries and pubs throughout downtown Sacramento with the Hop-On Hop Off Tour being offered Saturdays through March 7. There are 15 different stops on this tour, and with regular pick up and drop off times throughout the day, you can grab a quick drink or linger as long as you like.

March is a fabulous time to get out and about with those you care about – take advantage of the cooler weather while we have it, and try something new!
