Temper Tantrums
It is usually around two to three years old when your children start to display their temper tantrums.
This is mainly due to the fact that at that age your child is trying to show you their frustrations.
They can express the frustrations at that age but cannot seem to control the way they express them.
By the age of two or three years old the children have not quite mastered the language skills needed to express their frustrations properly hence the temper tantrums.
Usually as your children get older and finally master the skills needed they will stop their temper tantrums.
This is usually the case but not always the case as some older children do still have occasional tantrums.
These tantrums in the older children are just a way for them to get your undivided attention and get their own way.
If by having these tantrums you give in to their demands then they are going to carry on using them to get what they want.
This is because they will associate tantrums with getting whatever it is that they want, incorrectly of course.
But this will happen over and over again as a result of you giving in to them.
No matter where you are the best thing that you can do when your child starts to have their tantrum is just calmly walk away, as long as the child is not doing something to hurt themselves.
After a while your child will stop their tantrum and look to see where you are as they do not like it when they are left alone.
After they stop the tantrum you could just walk back and calmly talk to them to see what they want.
By doing this you can make them see that they get your attention more when they are calm.
But whatever you do you must not give in to their tantrums.
The secret is to always stay calm whenever your child is having one of their tantrums.
Shouting at them in these situations will just make things a lot worse.
Just try to keep in complete control whatever the situation.
Make your children aware that rewards come when they are behaving and not when they are having tantrums and soon you could kiss the tantrums goodbye.
