Memphis International Airport is a 3,900 acre facility with four runways that carries more than 10 million passengers annually. Because it houses FedEx's world hub and a UPS sorting facility, it has been the world's busiest cargo airport since 1993.

Airlines:

Memphis International is a Northwest Airlines hub and also offers flights through the following additional airlines:
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Continental Express

  • Northwest Airlines/KLM
  • US Airways/America West
  • Northwest Airlink
  • AirTran Airways
  • American
  • United Express

Parking:

Memphis International offers both short-term and long-term parking on site. In addition, there are several long-term parking lots located off site. A list of these lots can be found here.

Security:

All passengers will be screened by TSA personnel before being permitted to enter the terminals. The TSA website has a complete list of security rules that you should read over before taking a flight. In addition, the airport recommends the following:
  • Consider wearing slip-on shoes as you may be asked to remove them.
  • Remember that seemingly innoculous items such as tweezers, nail files, and lighters cannot be carried onto the plane.
  • Do not wrap any gifts that you are bringing along as they may have to be unwrapped.
  • Avoid wearing metal that cannot be easily removed (e.g, underwire bras, body piercings, etc.).

Passenger Pick-Up:

There are three choices when picking up passengers at Memphis International:

  • Short-term parking -- ideal if you want to go in and meet your party. The first 30 minutes are free.
  • Drive-thru pick-up -- ideal if your party is waiting. This is a half-circle driveway that allows you to stop along the curb, pick up your waiting passenger, and drive off.
  • Cell phone lot -- ideal if you are waiting for your party to arrive but don't want to go in and wait or circle the driveway. When the passenger is ready, they can simply call you on your cell phone.

Dining:

In addition to airport regulars such as Einstein Bagels, Starbucks, and Arby’s, Memphis International now offers some local flavor, as well. These Memphis-centric establishments include Interstate BBQ, Folk's Folly, Lenny’s, Corky’s, Grisanti’s Bol a Pasta, and Huey's.

Ground Transportation:

There are a number of options for ground transportation to and from the airport:
  • There are eight car rental companies located at the airport.
  • A complete list of limo companies and shuttle services can be located at the airport website.
  • Though there are typically taxis lined up and available to carry passengers, you might want to bring along this list of cab company numbers.
  • The Memphis Area Transit Authority offers public bus service from the lower outer drive near Terminal C.
