You know how it is when you are feeling somewhat depressed and you comfort yourself by making some unwise choices or not any choices at all! That could include food choices such as having a comforting ice cream, not going to workout at the gym and so on.
My body image worsens and I get even more depressed feelings and so it goes on and on.
Feeling somewhat depressed can be part of normal human existence and it would be boring if we were happy and smiling all the time and probably irritating too! However, when the depressed feelings becoming very intense, happen often and then last for a considerable length of time, we may be dealing with clinical depression.
We may realize too that these depressed feelings are now so intense that they prevent us from working and having social relationships.
They may also prevent us from getting out of bed in the morning.
The first step to help you go on is to recognize that this problem is a big issue and that if things like self harming are happening, then you should get help.
Making an appointment with a doctor or other health professional is an enormous first step.
Or even talking about it with someone close is also great.
The second step is preparing for that appointment.
I know lots of depressed people who fear that nobody will listen enough and that some of the issues for them may be brushed aside.
It is a great idea to make a list of things that are affecting your life.
Make a good list and keep it handy.
Without a list, you are bound to forget something.
The third step to help you go on is to get someone close to you to accompany you on that visit.
Having moral support is an enormous advantage.
If you forget something, that person will be there to jog your memory or just ask questions that you might forget.
I always forget at least one question when I visit a doctor! Many people who may be feeling somewhat depressed regularly are later diagnosed as being clinically depressed.
Unfortunately they end up with a prescription for an anti depressant medication such as Citalopram.
