How to Make Tribal Fusion Costumes
- 1). Choose a tribal inspiration. African, Arabesque, and Indian all contain a rich variety of colors and textures to choose from.
- 2). Fold your fabric over 7 inches. Using the ruler and a white marking pencil draw two triangles on fabric, 7 inches on each side. With a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sew each triangle together, all the way around. Trim the edges.
- 3). Measure your waist and add 12 inches. Use the measurement for the fabric and cut a piece for your skirt. Use the same measurement to measure and cut the elastic. Measure your torso and cut the elastic for your shirt. Cut two 7-inch strips of elastic for straps.
- 4). Choose a trim. Consider coins, fringe, rhinestones, tassels, beads and brocade. Consider your skill level. Attach trim to triangles with a sewing machine or glue.
- 5). Using a zig-zag stitch, attach the fabric to the waist elastic. Attach two to three rows of trim using glue, sewing machine, or hand stitching. Connect the ends and zig-zag stitch down from the waistline three inches. Attach straps to triangles. Laying triangles face down, line up elastic for top with the bottom of triangles and fold over. Zig-zag stitch the top of fold, allowing triangles to have the ability to slide over.
