Nikon Coolpix 4600 Tech Specs
- Nikon introduced the Coolpix 4600 and Coolpix 5600 in 2005. The Coolpix 4600 supersedes Nikon's E4100 model. The camera features a lightweight (4.6 oz., without battery) and ergonomic design, and came bundled with Nikon's PictureProject software.
- The Coolpix 4600 has a four million effective pixel sensor (four megapixels) arranged on a 1.8-inch CCD (charge-coupled device) type sensor. The camera produces images in four sizes with the largest size measuring 2,288 pixels wide by 1,716 pixels high. The Coolpix 4600 also films movie clips in three different sizes, all at a rate of 15 fps (frames per second). The lens on the Coolpix 4600 has a focal length of 5.7-17.1mm. The focal length equates to a 35mm equivalent of 34-102mm. The lens has seven elements in six groups, and an aperture range of f/2.9 to f/4.9. The 4600 features an 80,000 dots, 1.8-inch TFT LCD color monitor. This Coolpix model has 14 megabytes of internal storage and also accepts SD memory cards. The camera has a shutter speed range of 4 to 1/3000th of a second.
- The monitor on the Coolpix 4600 has approximately 97-percent horizontal and vertical frame coverage. The camera's built-in flash has a distance range of approximately 1.3 feet to 6.6 feet, depending upon the focal length of the lens at the time of image capture. The flash has five modes -- auto, auto with red-eye reduction, anytime flash, flash cancel and slow sync. When used with alkaline batteries, the Coolpix 4600 captures approximately 230 images and captures approximately 360 images with EN-MH1 rechargeable batteries. The camera measures 3.3 inches wide, 2.4 inches high and 1.4 inches deep.
- The Coolpix 4600 features a new, more intuitive GUI system that allows users to select menu items by function or by icon. The camera's help button displays on-screen assistance for any menu item selected. The 4600 also features noise reduction and offers a choice of white balance settings, including automatic and five manual settings. Additional features include the ability to print directly to compatible printers via PictBridge, an optional waterproof housing and a blur warning designed to prevent users from getting a blurry image.
