Bethune - Cookman University
BACKGROUND:
The long history of Bethune-Cookman University began in 1904 when Mary McLeod Bethune opened the Daytona Educational and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls. After a merger with the Cookman Institute of Jacksonville in 1923, it became a co-ed high school. Following an evolution from a junior college in 1931 to a fully certified 4 year college in 1941, BCU achieved University status in early 2007.
The University is fully accredited by SACS, Florida State Board of Education,the National League of Nursing, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and The University Senate of The United Methodist Church Board of Higher Education.
PROGRAMS:
Bethune-Cookman University offers 37 undergraduate degrees and a master's degree through seven academic schools: The School of Nursing, School of Education, School of Business, School of Social Sciences, School of Arts & Humanities, School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.
