How to Put a Plug on a Power Cord
- 1). Cut off the damaged plug or damaged portion of the cord with your wire cutter. Slice the outer insulation jacket with your utility knife in 3/4 inch from the end.
- 2). Separate each inside wire and strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire.
- 3). Unscrew the replacement plug to open it up. Slide the base up and over the power cord. Screw each wire to its respective terminal -- black to brass terminal, white to silver terminal and ground to green terminal.
- 4). Push the plug on to its base and tighten down the screws to secure it. If the base clamps to the cord, tighten those screws also.
- 5). Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. Plug a circuit tester into the other end. Refer to the circuit tester to see if the wires are hooked up to the correct terminals.
