Metal detecting treasures are just waiting to be found.
This is the allure to metal detecting that draws people to pick it up as a hobby.
Finding valuable items is a fun way to spend your time outdoors.
It's important to know that not every metal detecting excursion will bring in riches, but there are some things you can do that can help bring in more treasure than trash.
Of course you should be prepared to find lots of trash.
There's a lot of trash out there and since you are digging around in areas of high traffic or that were once used heavily, it's a given that you'll bring in more items of less value than valuable treasure.
This should not dampen your hunting endeavors, though.
There are still a lot of items of value that have not been found but you may need to put a little more effort into where you dig.
Sometimes items can be found in places that you may not like to hunt in because they are already crowded with other detectorists.
You shouldn't count these places out completely.
Favorable weather brings out more detectorists.
If you want to find treasures before the others do, it might work in your best interest to go hunting during the non-favorable times of the year.
Try searching these places after a hard rain.
Wet ground is more conducive to metal detecting.
This could give you the opportunity to find deeper treasures.
Detecting after hard winters is a good idea, too.
When the ground thaws, it tends to shift uncovering target areas that weren't there before giving you the advantage of finding hidden treasure.
If your goal is to find valuable items you need to do your research.
You need to find locations that have history and were well-populated.
Libraries and the internet have tons of information on different locations you can visit.
Libraries will have books and maps that can help you in your search.
You can ask the librarians for help, too.
The internet will have lots of historical information on locations, as well as tips on places from other metal detecting hobbyists.
Knowing the history of the place can really help you distinguish between trash and value of the items you are digging up.
Researching takes up a lot of time.
If you are more inclined to be adventurous, you may want to think about metal detecting clubs.
These clubs organize metal detecting hunts in locations that they have already researched.
Since the research has been done for you, you just need to bring your detector and other equipment to hunt.
Clubs also give you the opportunity to meet with other detectorists that can give you great advice and tips.
They can even tell you about the treasures they found in other locations that may be of interest to you.
If you're looking for metal detecting treasures, you now know it takes more than skill to find these items.
You need to be smart about the places you search in.
You should do your research or join a club to enhance the possibility of finding quality items on your next hunt.
