How to Make Phone Cables
- 1). Cut a length of four-conductor phone line with wire cutters to the length you want your cable to be.
- 2). Strip 3/4 of an inch of the outer jacket off one end of the phone line. Be careful not to nick or cut any of the four inner wires.
- 3). Straighten the four inner wires so they are parallel and in the following order, left to right: black, red, green, yellow.
- 4). Place the four inner wires next to an RJ-11 conductor and mark the wires to correspond to the length of the RJ-11 connector.
- 5). Strip the insulation of the four inner wires with your wire strippers down to the mark you made in Step 4.
- 6). Push the four inner wires into the back opening of the RJ-11 connector. Push the wires in far enough that the ends reach the front edge of the RJ-11 connector.
- 7). Place the RJ-11 connector into your crimping tool and close the tool firmly to crimp the wires in place.
- 8). Repeat Steps 2 through 7 with the other end of the phone line cable to complete your phone cable.
