How to Switch Verizon Phones
- 1). Back up your contacts before switching Verizon phones. Verizon Wireless has developed a back-up assistance tool that allows you to manage saved contacts so you do not lose them when you switch phones. To back up your phone, download and install the back-up utility from the "Get it now" application on your old phone. Run the program and complete a full backup of the address book.
- 2). Log into the back-up utility using your phone number and pin code to review the contact list. Delete back-up assistant from your old phone before activating the replacement.
- 3). Open the battery compartment on the back of your replacement phone. This process varies with different phone models; therefore, refer to your operating manual if you are unsure of how to open it.
- 4). Remove the battery after opening the compartment. You should see the serial number. Write it down. The serial number consists of a combination of the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) and MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier) characters. ESN and MEID are made up of numbers and/or letters depending on the phone. The combination of ESN and MEID characters make up the serial number.
- 5). Sign in to your "My Verizon" account. Click "Register for My Verizon" and follow the guided steps to create an account if you do not have one. You are automatically logged in to your My Verizon account when the registration is complete.
- 6). Click "Activate phone" and select the wireless number to use with the new phone.
- 7). Enter the serial number. Confirm the order and location number. Input your Social Security number and click "Submit." Confirm the order. The phone you are switching to is activated when the process is complete. You should see it listed on your account.
- 8). Download the back-up utility from the "Get it now" application once your replacement phone is activated. The back-up utility detects the new phone with the same number and restores all the saved contacts. Log in to your phone and pin code to view and edit your contacts.
