History buffs who visit Red River will enjoy visiting all five of the historic buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. With a violent past rife with Apaches and early settlers and a colorful contemporary lifestyle, Red River holds its own as one of the places the savvy traveler will want to see. One of the reasons for this is its Annual Art and Wine Festival.

Red River Art and Wine Festival

    • The first annual Red River Art and Wine Festival was held in 2003. Since then, the Chamber of Commerce of Red River, New Mexico, has hosted annual celebrations of the beauty and treasures the region has to offer. Offering tastings of a variety of locally grown fine wines and delicacies, the Festival is usually held during Father's Day week in June. A variety of colorful and talented local performers provide the musical backdrop to the Art and Wine Festival, located in Brandenburg Park, Red River.

    The Wineries

    • Many of the area's wineries participate in the Festival including the famous Black Mesa Winery, Santa Fe Vineyards and Ponderosa Valley Vineyards. Black Mesa Winery's award-winning wines, always a draw, include Black Mesa Port, Black Mesa Rose' and its Cabernet Sauvignon. Ponderosa's award-winning Pinot Noir is also a favorite at the festival. Aside from the wine tastings, a progressive dinner including wines from around the region is featured. Tasting tickets are good for the weekend and include a commemorative glass of wine.

    Art

    • The Art and Wine Festival is known for its amazing array of arts and crafts, many of which are available via both a silent and live auction. Among the offerings at the Festival is a selection of fine art, pottery and photographs created by local artists, sculptors and photographers, as well as those who travel from far and wide to be part of this special event. Visitors to the Festival will find a variety of treasures from which to choose and the anticipation of a silent auction along with the excitement and energy of a live auction add a little suspense to the day.
