How Do I Replace Home Door Locks?
- 1). Locate the four mounting screws located on the lock and remove them, using a Phillips screwdriver. Hold the lock in place while you remove the screws, as the screws are the only thing securing it to the door. Set the lock off to the side.
- 2). Remove the screws that secure the locking plate to the door frame. You will locate between two and four screws.
- 3). Place the new locking plate over the old mounting holes and secure it to the door trim with the new screws supplied with the new lock.
- 4). Place the new deadbolt lock on the door and line up the holes in the door with the holes for mounting the lock. Secure the lock to the door with the new screws supplied with the lock.
- 5). Turn the lock actuator to the "Locked" position to make sure it locks properly.
- 1). Open the door and locate the lock plate on the edge of the door. Remove the two screws that hold the lock plate in place, using a screwdriver.
- 2). Remove the two machine screws that hold the inner door lock to the outer door lock, and then pull the inner and outer doorknobs apart. The screw heads are located on the inside doorknob. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
- 3). Pull the lock latch out though the hole in the side of the door, and then slide the new lock latch into the door though the hole on the side.
- 4). Slide the post that's located on the inside doorknob through the hole in the lever, and then slide the outer doorknob onto the post. Secure the two sides of the doorknob together with the machine screws supplied with the new lock.
- 5). Place the new latch plate on the end of the door and secure it, using the new screws supplied with the new lock.
