Size Does Matter

• One of the major differences between field hockey and ice hockey is the size and shape of the stick used. In field hockey, the sizes of the stick range in length from 26 to 38 inches, depending on the height of the player. In ice hockey, the lengths of the sticks are based on a measurement taken from a player's nose to the ground.
  
  

Out of Shape

• A big difference between field hockey and ice hockey is where they are played. Field hockey is played on a large rectangular grass or artificial turf field. Ice hockey is played on a large indoor oval rink.
  
  

Dress to Impress

• Both field hockey and ice require uniforms, but that's where the similarities end. Field hockey is played with next to no protection at all. The uniform is a skirt with matching short sleeve shirt and socks and a pair of cleated sneakers or spikes. The common uniform for ice hockey is protective padding from head to toe with matching jerseys, pants, hose and single-bladed hockey skates on the feet.
