Ten years back, when the concept of owning a website was yet to catch fever, life was easy.
There were fewer websites, Google was yet to arrive on the scene, and Yahoo was benevolent enough to allow its human editors review and admit websites into their directory.
There were other search engines and directories of repute and it was not a big game to gain visibility in them.
Business on the net wasn't yet a popular idea, and in fact big brick-and-mortar businesses didn't consider it necessary to invest for their own websites.
Much water has since flown down all major waterways.
Google has become the big daddy of the web-world today and only a person with no faculty between the eyes would frown on the necessity of website for whatever business one is engaged in.

In most cases, you’ll find that those websites are a decade old and have lots and lots of contents that have piled over the years.
They have been at it doggedly, and they are still at it doggedly.
In the process, they have a huge accumulation of relevant links going out and coming in, which means these websites have very strong base and deeply-entrenched roots.
Now, here’s a pertinent question.
If any of the experienced websites is to start a new site today, will it be able to scale comparable success? In all probability, the answer is ‘No’.
In today’s ultra-competitive environment, there are perhaps just about 3 ways to gain superiority among millions of jostling websites, no matter how hard you try: 1 Start a new concept (product or service) that catches the fancy of a relatively good portion of web users.
Examples of recent past are blogging, socializing, easily usable open source software, niche portals, etc.
2 Spend solid sum of money giving ppc ads.
By doing so, you’ll be able to garner lot of viewers whom you then diligently lead through the process of generating sales for you.
3 This is a 3-stage way.
First, build content.
Second, repeat the first.
Third, remember the first two.
