Encouraging Kids to Have Fun Under the Sea
How can you go about preparing your children for the experience of exploring what lies below the surface of the water? Even if you have no doubts that your children will love it, you do need to prepare them for what going snorkeling involves, this means pre-site practice and adjustment to snorkeling gear.
Taking the time to do this, prior to your next adventure will help both you and your children to have a great time.
At Home Snorkeling Lessons Once you have told your kids that you are going to take them on an under the sea adventure you need to take steps to prepare them.
This means you need to practice at home so they can get an idea of what snorkeling will be like once you reach your chosen snorkeling site.
The best way to go about practicing with your child is in your bathtub at home.
By placing your child in the tub and giving them the chance to get used to the different pieces of snorkel gear, it will make them more excited about the idea when it is time to head to the water.
The first thing you want to give your child while they are in the bathtub is the snorkel.
Let the child practice breathing through the snorkel.
If they want to play with it to get them to feel more comfortable allow them that time, it will make use if it later easier.
Once your child has become more comfortable with the snorkel, it is time to try on the mask.
Let your child place it on the front of their face first to make sure it fits comfortably.
Before you have your child put their face under the water you want to ensure it fits properly and that no hair is inside the mask.
If either of these situations occurs, water may get into the mask and your child may be discouraged.
After properly fitting the mask, have your child practice breathing in through their nose.
The next step is to let them test the mask out underwater.
Let them get the feel of what it is like to see underwater.
The final step in your snorkeling lesson is combining the snorkel with the mask and letting your child adjust to using both together.
Practice with your child a couple times before you head out on your snorkeling adventure and do not forget to bring the water wings to help your child stay afloat so they can enjoy the experience.
