Hemorrhoid Home Remedies

Most hemorrhoid home remedies are rather simple in nature and are easy to understand.
The draw of these remedies is so great due to the fact that they are often low cost (and in some cases even free and use things that are lying around your house or no products at all) and pose little to no risk to the afflicted individual like more drastic surgical measures do.
The good thing about these methods is that some of them have been around for hundreds of years and have such a high success rate with most people that it would be hard to refute that they work.
It can be said that the most effective home remedy for piles is to prevent them before they've started.
How, you ask? Simple: by getting more fiber in your diet, exercising hard and regularly, and drinking more water.
The fiber will help to soften your bowel movements and allow them to keep more water content so that they do not press against and irritate the hemorrhoids as you are defecating.
This is important because irritation of the hemorrhoid veins is what 90% of hemorrhoids cases are cause by.
Exercising, in contrast, improves blood flow throughout the body, thus strengthening the hemorrhoids so that they do not swell and get irritated as easily.
Drinking more water will also help give the feces more softness and also allow the tissue around the anus where the hemorrhoids are located to be less dehydrated and thus be more stretchable.
Of course, all of these precautions can be worked in if you are already experiencing hemorrhoid pain and discomfort, but it make take longer for you to see their effects.
Other simple home remedies include supplying ice packs; ointments, creams, and oils applied softly directly to the swollen area; and cleaning the affected area correctly after making a bowel movement.
Ice packs help by decreasing the swelling of the hemorrhoid region due to the restriction of blood flow that they cause when cooling down the skin.
This is a natural response to coldness and, as a bonus benefit, ice also numbs the area down as well.
Homemade oil remedies such as Vaseline and zinc-oxide paste mixed with certain oils that have astringent properties (such as horse chestnut oil) are as good, if not better, than anything you can buy in your local grocery store's health aisle.
Cleaning up after a bowel movement with toilet paper or cloth can also often aggravate hemorrhoids, so it is advisable to either take a shower or a bath after every bowel movement if possible for a few weeks to see if this improves things.
