How to Grease and Install Skateboard Speed Rings

• 1). Lubricate the speed rings/bearings using your preferred lubricant or grease. It is recommended to use only one or two drops of lubricant per speed ring. Spread the lubricant around your bearings by spinning them around in your fingers a few times; this will also get the lubricant into the inner parts of the speed rings. Make sure to leave a little lubricant on your fingers for installation.
  
  
• 2). Install one speed ring using either your trucks for leverage or a bearing press if you have one. When installing, do not put direct pressure on the inner part of the speed ring and instead apply pressure to the outer edges. A proper bearing press will do this automatically. If you are not using a bearing press, you only need to use your two thumbs and the trucks as leverage. Simply push down on the speed ring until it is in place. Ensure it is centered on the truck.
  
  
• 3). Install the spacer if your speed rings come with them --- most do. Simply slide the spacer into place above, and pressing on, the speed ring.
  
  
• 4). Slide the wheel without the nuts onto the truck. Spin the wheel to make sure that the speed ring is centered correctly. The wheel should spin quietly and smoothly. If it does not, you will need to backtrack, removing the spacer and speed ring and then reinstalling them again.
  
  
• 5). Add the nut onto the truck to lock the wheel in place. You can begin using just your fingers and then use either the wrench --- if you have one small enough to use on skateboard wheels --- or the pliers to tighten and secure the wheel in place. Spin the wheel to make sure that the nut is not on too tight, because this can hinder its ability to spin correctly.
  
  
• 6). Repeat the above steps for each of the speed rings until they are all installed. Wipe your hands clean on the cloth or towel. Try out the skateboard by rolling it on a flat surface using only your hands --- do not get on your skateboard just yet.
