The Audubon Zoo

• The Audubon Zoo, which is located in uptown New Orleans, was voted "A Must See Attraction" in 2009 by Frommer's Magazine. The zoo features an array of animals from around the world, such as Asian elephants, white tigers and whooping cranes. Hands-on encounters with some animals are available. A simulated safari ride and endangered species carousel are available for an additional fee.

The Louisiana Children's Museum

• At the Louisiana Children's Museum children can guide a replica towboat down Mississippi. They can learn how to order, cook and wait tables in an interactive role-playing restaurant. They may be fascinated to learn what the inside of a bubble is like when they have the chance to stand in the center of one. Special exhibits and programs are offered throughout the year.

Audubon Insectarium

• The Audubon Insectarium is located in the U.S. Custom House on Canal Street. It is the largest insect museum in the United States and allows visitors to get up close and personal with the insects of North America. Children may enjoy having butterflies land on them as they walk through the Asian-inspired garden where countless butterflies fly freely. They can meet an entomologist and his bugs at the Field Camp, which replicates a field camp in a tropical jungle. If your children are daring, they can sample culinary specialties made of bugs.
