Make Your Own Hand Lotion With Olive Oil
- It is fairly easy to make a hand lotion out of olive oil and a few other simple ingredients. This lotion will be slightly thinner than hand cream. The main ingredients are one ounce of olive oil, a half-ounce of lemon juice, another half-ounce of almond oil, and whatever essential oils you would like to use. These essential oils can be purchased from various home and body stores and primarily serve to give the hand lotion some extra scents. If you prefer unscented hand lotions, skip the essential oils.
- The first step is to mix the first three ingredients together in a glass bowl (lemon juice, almond oil, and olive oil). Next, stir the mixture until everything is blended together. Add three or four drops of the essential oils (obviously, skip this step if you are making unscented lotion) and blend together, using a whisk, until the entire mixture is frothy and light. Now that the lotion has been made, it should be stored in a glass container (not plastic) in your refrigerator.
- Keep in mind that this lotion doesn't have any preservatives in it, so use it all within about 10 days. In some cases, the addition of a little lavender oil will have prolong its shelf life. You can also add other ingredients, such as aloe or vitamin E, to give this lotion additional soothing or healing properties. One advantage of this type of lotion is that it is cheap, easy to make, and contains no alcohols. This means that it is unlikely to irritate your skin, as some lotions with additives can do, and also won't dry it out.
