Boyce Park Ski Area - Monroeville, Pennsylvania

This ski area may be tiny and run by a county park, but it is just outside of Pittsburgh making it a great afternoon trip for people in the area. Lift tickets are inexpensive ($10 Mon.-Thurs., and $14 Fri.-Sunday for county residents, with discounts for children, seniors and groups), making it easy to spend a few lazy Saturday hours when you don't have time for the drive to a larger ski resort.
New for 2013, there is an extra fee tacked on for non-county residents ($13 Mon.-Thurs. and $18 on Fridays and weekends). The park offers nine runs including moguls, halfpipe, Nastar timing runs with gates, jumps and night skiing. It's definitely a beginner ski area, however, so don't expect anything more. New for the 2013/2014 season, non-Allegheny County residents will have to pay a bit more.
New snow guns installed in 2013 means the ski area will have its earliest opening in over a decade, with a longer season and less closures.

Ski Boyce Park
While Boyce Park ski area is small and the snow isn't often that great, they have just about everything else you would expect at a larger ski area, including equipment rental, ski school and a snowboard park (with two quarter pipes, three table top jumps, and one of the longest half pipes in Pennsylvania). When you need a break, the Four Seasons Lodge offers a warm fire, hot food and drinks. Sometimes crowded on the weekends and best for beginning skiers and children, but you can't beat the price.
Call before you go! Boyce Park often opens late in the season and closes during periods of bad weather.

- Cheap! - Despite the fact that Boyce Park ski area is very small, you sure get your money's worth - especially if you're a beginning skiier. Can't beat a $10 lift ticket! And if you have a Wednesday evening free, the entire family (two adults and up to four youth) can ski for $40 from 3:30 - 10:00 p.m.
- Snow Tubing - Six great tubing lanes and a magic carpet lift offer a fun afternoon of snow tubing for family members of all ages. Tubing lift passes are separate from ski lift passes ($12 for adults/juniors and $8.00 for youth/children) and include a 3-hour session.
- The Lodge - if you have kids who want to ski, but don't really like to ski yourself, then the lodge offers a magnificent view of the slopes from the second floor observation area.
