The islands of Hawaii are a popular destination for tourists, known for their natural and scenic beauty. Hawaii contains six islands: Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii, the "Big Island." As a state of many islands, Hawaii relies on air travel for both its tourists and residents. Each island contains at least one airport, all of which serve various airlines and passenger needs. - The Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is one of the busiest and largest airports in the world. During peak times, the airport can hold up to 10,000 people on its premises. The Honolulu Airport is located in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. There are four runways, including the world's first major runway, a distance of 12,000 feet, built completely offshore.
Travelers are mainstreamed through the airport's 47 gates, divided into three concourses: Central, Ewa and Diamond Head. Gates are served by 27 international and domestic airline carriers. The HNL airport also features a variety of restaurants, bars, retail stores, currency exchange, a post office and even a jail.
