Use the same material in the same shade to draw stronger attention to the design. Mix and match stone or yellow brick to create an interesting color pattern.

    • If working with limited space is an issue, creating an outdoor patio in an "L" shape suits a couple various needs. Plant bushes or hedges along the long line of the shape to enable separation between the two spaces. Set up a self-sustaining outdoor fireplace in the smaller area, including a bench or wicker chairs. Establish further privacy by erecting a trellis and weaving plants through the open slats. In the larger of the two areas add an outdoor sofa, two chairs and a coffee table or a dining table and chairs. Building two different sections, allows adults and young people to simultaneously socialize while maintaining personal space.
