Makeup Tricks With Darker Eyeshadow in the Corner of Eyes

    Emphasizing the Eye

    • Emphasize the shape of the eye by applying a darker shadow just to the crease of the eyelid, starting just above the iris and ending at the outer corner of the eye. Take care to blend the shadow thoroughly so that it does not appear to be a line across the lid. Instead, it should look like your eyes have a shadow in the outer crease area.

    Winged Eye

    • One of the most flattering looks for any eye shape is to create a winged eye. This is achieved by using dark eye shadow at the outer corner of the eye to create a point. The trick to creating this look the right way is to follow the natural contours of the eye. The easiest way to do this is to place a piece of paper just under the eye, along the lower lash line, following the natural line of the lower eye lash. The paper must be cut into a gentle curved shape that will follow the lash line and continue it toward the temple, and should extend beyond the lid to the temple. Use a dark color on a large shadow brush and dust the shadow on the eyelid, extending it just beyond the eyelid but not above the brow bone, while holding the paper tight against your face. Once you remove the paper, you should have a clean line of shadow extending just beyond the eye, forming a winged, cat eye shape.

    Subtle Shadows

    • Not every makeup look has to be dramatic. Sometimes subtle shadowing is all that is needed to create flattering style. If all you need is a little contouring, select an eyeshadow in a dark or medium brown, and dust it onto the outer corner of the eye using a small shadow brush. Blend the shadow into the eye using a clean shadow brush or a blending brush, pulling the shadow across the top and bottom lid to the center of the eye.

    Wet Shadow

    • Adding a little bit of water to your eyeshadow can create a dramatic shade that is a little more precise than dry powder. Wet the tip of an eyeliner brush and dip the brush into a dark shadow. Use the brush to line the top and bottom lash line on the outer corner of the eye. Using a large, dry shadow brush, dip the brush into the same color and brush it across the outer corner of the eyelid. Blend the wet shadow into the dry shadow to create a subtle blend of color.
