What Resources Must Church Leaders Utilize?

    The Bible

    • The first resource the leadership in a Christian church should turn to is the Bible. Major problems in the church can be resolved simply by following the principles laid out within the Bible's pages. For example, if two church members are in conflict, the first step is for them to approach one another with a humble spirit. If the conflict still cannot be resolved, then a third party should go with them. If that does not solve the problem, the church deacons or elders may need to get involved in the situation to see if it is a case where church discipline is necessary or if things can be resolved.

    Local Church Leaders Fellowship

    • Many church leaders team up with leaders in other churches in their area. They may get together once every month and discuss programs their churches can offer together or pray for each other's ministries. These leaders may know of resources, upcoming conferences and other events that you have not heard about. The group can be made up of different Christian denominations as long as the core beliefs are the same. If there is not such a group in your area, contact other church leaders and see if there is interest in forming a group.

    Denomination Resources

    • If your church belongs to an organized national body, for instance if you're Southern Baptist, United Methodist or Catholic, there will likely be a regional and national body that offers various resources. Although programs and offerings may differ from organization to organization and by region, you may find programs like training workshops for church leaders, free luncheons and chances to fellowship with other leaders and print materials for your church.

    Regional and National Conventions

    • Most denominations offer both regional and national conventions. There are also conventions held for specific jobs. For example, Dare to Share offers training for youth leaders. Promise Keepers offers workshops to train men to be more godly and leaders in their homes. The convention may be more general and offer workshops and seminars for everyone, but there will likely be sessions specifically geared toward pastors, pastors' wives, youth leaders, and music and children's ministry workers.
