What Is a Credo?

    Business Credo

    • A business credo, sometimes referred to as a "motto," is usually one sentence that encompasses their belief system. For example, the credo of the Ritz-Carlton hotel and resort chain is, "Ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen." This simple yet effective credo demonstrates how employees should carry themselves and how they should treat guests.

    Nicene Creed

    • The Nicene Creed is the only ecumenical (universal) creed because it is accepted as authoritative by the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican and major Protestant churches. Although there are slight variances in denominations, it generally begins:

      "We believe in one God,

      the Father, the Almighty

      maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is seen and unseen."

    Apostles' Creed

    • Also called Apostolicum or the Symbol of the Apostles, the Apostle's Creed is a statement of faith used in Roman Catholic, Anglican, Protestant and other Christian churches. It was dictated by the 12 Apostles, and therefore is divided into 12 articles. The creed begins almost the same in all Christian denominations:

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

      creator of heaven and earth."
