15 Christmas Traditions Every Family Should Have
11. Go Caroling
The old holiday tradition of singing carols from house to house has been lost over the years. Bring it back!
Get everyone in your family together for some old-fashioned Christmas caroling door to door. If you're really feeling festive, make costumes for your family. Or keep it simple and put on the Christmas sweaters. Learn a few songs, practice them beforehand and then hit your neighborhood to spread good cheer.
12. Perform Random Acts of Kindness
Make a Christmas card for the elderly lady next door. Leave cookies on your children's friends doorstep (just let their mom and dad know you'll be doing so so your cookies will be eaten). There are many random acts of kindness you and your family can perform during the entire month of December.
If you're stumped on what to do, start by sitting down with your family and coming up with a list of people you all would like to surprise with random acts of kindness. Then decide what you would like to do for each of the people on your list. It can be the same act of kindness, such as a homemade Christmas ornament for each person, or something completely different for everyone on your list.
13. Open a Present the Night Before Christmas
A favorite Christmas tradition is to give everyone in your family one Christmas present to open the night before Christmas. They don't have to be big presents.Even something as simple as a new pair of pajamas kids can wear that night and for Christmas Day while they open new presents is perfect for this annual tradition. It's also fun to take pictures and see everyone's Christmas pajamas over the years -- Mom and Dad included!
14. Attend Services
Even if you don't attend church services regularly, don't let that stop you from attending a service around Christmas. Many churches host special Christmas services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.They also have December programs before Christmas that are centered around the choir and the church's children singing Christmas songs. Some even offer plays with a Christmas theme.
15. Make Christmas Crafts
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for crafts. There are so many fun Christmas crafts your whole family can make together.
Use them as gifts or keep them for yourself. Just be sure you set aside time during your busy Christmas schedule to create new Christmas projects together each year.
