    • 1). Cover the roots with a headband. This is a simple solution -- and you can show off a pretty headband.

    • 2). Use products in your home to cover roots. For instance, apply loose baby powder to hide gray roots in light hair. Place a large makeup brush in a container of loose powder and swirl it around. Tap the excess off the handle and brush the roots. Dark eyeshadow is an excellent concealer for gray roots on dark hair. Dab an eyeshadow applicator into the mascara and run it over your roots.

    • 3). Apply a temporary root color product. You can buy this type of product at drug stores or beauty supply stores. They are available in crayon or marker form and you simply run them over the roots. The color lasts until you wash it out. Follow the directions on the package for the proper application.

    • 4). Conceal your roots with your hairstyle. Do not make a straight part because this will advertise your roots. Try a zigzag part or simply don't part your hair at all. You can create a hairstyle that adds volume and hides roots. Add mousse to freshly washed hair. Run your fingers in an upward motion while aiming the blow dryer at the roots. Turn your head over and shake it.
