Even though we hear about the dangers of smoking and of second hand smoke on a daily basis many individuals continue to smoke their cigarettes. Due to the proven scientific research studies many laws are now active in other countries prohibiting smoking everywhere. There are similar laws in the U.S. that ban smoking in any public access areas. Why anyone would want to continue smoking after all the negative facts surrounding the cigarette have been proven is beyond my comprehension and if you want to quit here are some tips and tricks that may help you kick that habit for good.

First you need to figure out the times you are most likely to smoke. Whether it is with your morning coffee, after a meal, before bed, any and all times you usually smoke. By knowing when you crave a cigarette you will be better prepared to avoid such times.

The next tip is to find a way to fight off the urges by chewing gum, sucking on hard candies, whatever gets you through the cravings. Simply stating you will quit will rarely work because nicotine is a drug and a powerful one so, kicking the habit will not be easy and the withdrawal symptoms won't be easy to deal with.

Tip three is to be sure you don't go anywhere that people will be smoking. Throw away anything you have that has to do with smoking, such as cigarettes, lighters, matches, etc. Clear all these items out of your home, car, and office. Even if tempted do not hide a cigarette here or there or a pack for a rainy day or a just in case. Get rid of all of them otherwise it is too easy to slip back into old patterns.

Tip four is to keep it within your mind that you will succeed in quitting. Keep in mind too how great you will feel once you are no longer smoking. Leave yourself little notes of praise and encouragement.

If you truly want to quit and a have a quit smoking plan to follow there is no reason you should not be able to kick the horrible habit. Realizing it is a drug addiction and not simply a choice will help in your fight against the addiction to smoking. It is easier done with a plan in motion, good luck and happy breathing!
