Mattress covers in today's day and age is just about a necessity with the invasion of bed bugs happening so frequently.
These bed bugs hide within the bed and end up feeding on you leaving red itchy bumps in the morning, and on top of that bed bugs lay eggs everyday as small as grains of salt making them extremely difficult to find and get rid of.
The solution is mattress covers! Even if you already have one, having a great cover can prevent the bed bugs from making a home right on your bed.
But how do you go about choosing the mattress cover to be sure you won't be waking to any mysterious bites in the morning.
Well, believe it or not, not all mattress covers are created equal.
In fact settling for anything below par could cost you, your body, and also your wallet.
So let's see how you go about choosing the right mattress cover.
First you have several options when choosing the material for your mattress cover from cheap plastic and vinyl to all kinds of different fabrics ranging from standard cotton to high priced Egyptian cotton.
When choosing try to avoid any type of plastic or vinyl although you'll find them significantly cheaper than fabric covers you'll be getting what you pay for.
Vinyl and plastic covers are uncomfortable to begin with and that itself can ruin your entire sleep, but also over time end up smelling quite bad.
Another thing is they are easily torn which defeats the purpose of a mattress cover.
So again, although they are cheaper they really aren't going to provide the comfort and longevity as cotton or poly-cotton mattress cover would.
A cotton or poly-cotton (which I will refer to as fabric) will give you a much secure encasement around the mattress with a nice fitting.
In some cases, a fabric cover can even assist with the comfort level of your mattress helping you sleep better.
Fabric covers are machine washable and as well as more sanitary than both a vinyl and plastic cover.
You won't go wrong choosing a cotton or poly-cotton cover just as long you are sure it's durable fabric and the encasement is secure with a locking feature.
Next thing you should look for is a complete encasement with some kind of seal.
Now most mattress covers you find will have the complete encasement with a zipper seal, but what you want to look for is a seal that has some kind of locking mechanism.
Many mattress covers you'll see will have a the zipper seal but that's it and this can seem like a safe way to go but in reality this usually leaves small openings for bed bugs to enter in and out with ease.
Also, with nothing more than a zipper seal can lead to slightly opening the cover with movement among the bed.
To make sure you're safe from those bed bugs try looking for a secure zipper seal along with some kind of secondary lock to secure that zipper from moving and from covering any small holes that may be exposed.
Choosing the right mattress cover for you can save you loads of time and money.
The best way to protect your sleep investment is to buy a quality mattress cover.
