What is Angora Wool?
On Facebook, DIY Fashion reader Maggie writes, 'Rain, what is the difference between angora and mohair wool, if any? Thanks!'
Hi Maggie! Angora wool is often confused with mohair, but there is a big difference. As in, horns, and hooves kind of big difference. Mohair actually comes from the Angora goat, not the Angora rabbit.
Angora wool is incredibly soft and silky, making it a highly desirable yarn.
It is also fairly difficult to obtain. The Angora rabbits are combed to get the hair, which means that they have to have long enough fur to comb. It has been reported that some Angora bunnies have actually had the hair pulled from the skin, which is why some object to the use of Angora wool these days. There are four breeds of Angora rabbit; English, French, Satin and Giant.
How do I care for Angora?
