How to Make a One-Fit Hat Smaller
- 1). Fill a bowl, sink or other large container half way with hot water. Avoid touching the water since it must be hot to shrink the hat.
- 2). Put on rubber gloves to avoid coloring your hands with dye that may come off a new hat.
- 3). Hold the fitted, crown portion of the hat in the water until it is completely soaked. Avoid wetting the brim of the hat.
- 4). Take the hat out of the water, and gently squeeze out excess water without making the hat misshapen. Lay the hat on a small towel for five minutes until most of the water has dropped off.
- 5). Gently blot the hat with another dry towel or washcloth until the hat is only slightly damp.
- 6). Place the damp hat on your head, and wear it until it is dry. Wearing the hat while it is damp will make the fitted portion shrink to fit the size of your head. Wear the hat in direct sunlight to help it shrink. Allow a few hours for the hat to dry completely, or use a hairdryer to make the hat shrink faster.
