Nightmares Or Night Terror, Which is It?

It does not seem that anybody is exempt from nightmares and that we have all had them at some point in time in our life.
Some of us suffer from them more than others and this can be equal either to children teens or beyond.
Some very common causes of nightmares can be related to the individual being over tired or even experiencing high stress levels.
Some individuals suffer from more of a psychological type nightmare.
It can actually be nightmare disorders or night terror disorder.
If one takes a closer look at night terror means looking at a disorder, which creates a temporary inability to regain full consciousness.
Individuals who suffer from this condition will often sit straight up their eyes will be wide open staring ahead and they will look terrified which they quite often are.
To add to this overwhelming occurrence they will let out a bloodcurdling scream.
To add to all of this you will also notice that they have a fast heart rate, they may be perspiring and they will be breathing quickly.
It may seem like they are awake but the individual will not be aware of his surroundings.
They will be quite confused and most likely will not recognize others.
This is not something that lasts for just a few fleeting moments.
This condition, last anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes and then afterwords the individual goes back to sleep as if nothing happened.
Now it is the onlooker's time to be terrified.
There can be several causes for this occurrence.
If it is happening in children, it is often because they have exhausted themselves.
With an adult, it can be brought on by a trauma or it can even be genetic factors.
It can be linked to other sleep disorders and it can be because of hypoglycemia or even stress.
These disorders are contributed to this condition.
One cannot forget that it could be a symptom of something underlying.
It is important to get a proper diagnosis before any type of treatment can be carried out.
Ideally, the first type of treatment would probably be to try to identify the cause and do the best that can be done to eliminate the cause.
If this were happening frequently, it would be wise to seek medical help and get a firm diagnosis that it is in fact sleep terror.
Many individuals suffer from some type of sleep disorder but some are more severe than others are and last longer than maybe what some of the lesser ones do.
Much can be done to try to find a diagnosis of what is going on.
Quite often, an individual will be referred to a sleep clinic where extensive tests can be conducted.
Any individual that is suffering from a sleep disorder for any period really should seek out help because if the condition creates too much loss of sleep it can end up leading to other disorders.
