How to Repair & Bond Torn Leather
- 1). Place the items included in the repair kit on a flat surface near the area you will be working. Read the instructions and warnings.
- 2). Clean the area around the tear with a lint-free cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol. Wipe the area dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.
- 3). Use the back of a butter knife or spoon to carefully spread the repair compound over the tear. Spread the compound out ½ inch over the surrounding area of the tear. Allow the repair compound to dry thoroughly before continuing.
- 4). Rub the compound with the cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol until you have smoothed the compound out. Ensure that the compound is completely smooth before continuing. Allow the compound to dry once again.
- 5). Apply the clear coat to the area. Apply the clear coat in the same manner as if you where painting. Continuing applying the clear coat until you achieve the desired color. You may have to apply several coats. Allow the clear coat to dry thoroughly.
- 6). Clean and condition the leather item with an approved cleaner and conditioner.
