I'm sure you have all heard some classic drinking urban myths, such as "I'm a better driver when I drink", or "If I keep drinking I will drink myself sober" Wow the things people believe.
Did you know there are a some myths about smoking that are just as silly, Once you understand it.

The first is that smoking relieves stress.
Many smokers are convinced that their stress will be reduced if they smoke.
Yet most are still smoking as much or more on their weekends or holidays when they are relaxing.
Relieving stress is a myth.
When you light up a cigarette you fire off the dopamine receptors in your brain, this gives a short lived feeling of wellbeing.
This same effect can be achieved with chocolate sex or exercise.
After the dopamine is discharged the stress is even greater than before because the nicotine which is a stimulant starts to drive anxiety.
The confusion for smokers is that they actually forget what it was like to manage their stress prior smoking.

Another myth is that smoking will keep you thin.
Nicotine will keep your blood sugar artificially high which can give a feeling of not needing to eat.
Unfortunately this is not very good for you in the long run.
However this doesn't work for everyone, sure if you smoke a few cigarettes your heart rate may go up a little bit and you may burn a few calories, but for most smokers they gain weight because their fat burning cells and inefficient.
