Pimples can be an unsightly thing. The redness of pimples will usually subside on their own in a few days, but many are not willing to wait that long. Rather than pinching and popping the pimples and causing more irritation, some of the best remedies to reduce redness can be found right in your home. - Apply a small quantity of toothpaste and let it sit overnight. Wash it off in the morning. Toothpaste also helps in preventing accumulation of oils. Make sure not to use the gel form. Redness-reducing eye drops for bloodshot eyes can also help. Soak a cotton swab or cotton ball with the solution, and gently hold it over they red spot for at least 10 minutes.
- Freshly extracted cucumber or tomato juice can reduce redness. Apply evenly over the face and leave on for 15 minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water. Apple cider vinegar also works well as an astringent; honey smeared over the affected area will help reduce redness, as will a freshly sliced potato when placed on the blemish for fifteen minutes.
- An icepack, when applied gently, can reduce the swelling and redness. Make sure not to crush the pimple while doing this, or it may become more irritated.
- Grind oat flakes into a powder and mix with water to make a paste. Use it instead of soap while bathing to reduce redness.
