History of Orlando Gay Days
Initiated in 1991, Gay Days in Orlando originally started as a one day celebration at the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World. On the first Saturday in June, gays and lesbians were invited to "Wear Red and Be Seen". As time went on, the one day celebration evolved into a week long event for the gay and lesbian community. Since the inception of Gay Days in 1991, attendance has grown from 3,000 that first year to well over 135,000.

The week long celebration of Gay Days now involves daily visits to all 4 of Disney's Theme Parks.

In keeping with the original tradition of visiting the Magic Kingdom on the first Saturday in June, Gay Days has now added: Thursday at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Friday at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Sunday at Epcot.

No More Bans on Gay Days at Orlando Attractions
Local hotels, restaurants and bars are also getting into the spirit of Gay Days by offering special pool-side parties, dancing, music and entertainment including female impersonators. This years events include activities at the Orlando Science Center, Habitat for Humanity and several educational and support seminars.

Gone are the warning signs that used to be present at the entrance of the Magic Kingdom - in fact, this year's official host, the Royal Plaza hotel, is right on Disney property.

Family Friendly Gay Days in Orlando
A little variation from the 'Spring Break' atmosphere that seems to go along with this type of event, Gay Days Family now embraces the concept of family. A group has organized Gay Day Family as a way to promote a more nurturing environment for families that consist of gay and lesbian parents.

Instead of pool-side parties, lots of drinking and outrageous entertainment, Gay Day Family has put together daily 'family-friendly' activities such as a visit to Disney Quest, a Character Breakfast and a day at SeaWorld.
