How to Wire Golf Cart Batteries

    • 1). Access the battery compartment by lifting the seat of the golf cart. You may want to use a rope or bungee cord to secure the seat to ensure it does not fall while you are working.

    • 2). Disconnect the battery cables from the batteries. These are usually secured with a wing nut. You may have to use pliers or channel locks to free the nut.

    • 3). Remove the old batteries, taking note of how they are placed in the compartment. It is easiest to remove one battery and replace it with a new one and then to move on to the next battery in the cycle.

    • 4). With the new batteries in place, begin connecting the cables. The positive cable from the control will hook to the positive terminal on the first battery.

    • 5). Connect a cable from the negative terminal of the first battery to the positive terminal of the second battery. The batteries need to be connected in a "loop," essentially creating one large battery pack.
Continue connecting negative to positive until you reach the last battery.

    • 6). Connect the negative cable from the control to the negative terminal of the last battery in the cycle. You now have a complete circuit to power the golf cart.

    • 7). There's an additional cable from the control (or from the solenoid at the rear of the cart, depending on the construction of the cart). This cable engages the reverse switch of the motor. Connect this cable to any of the positive terminals on the batteries.
