Rope Pull Repair on Mowers
- 1). Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug to prevent an accidental start.
- 2). Remove the plastic starter cover by removing the screws holding it down. There should be three to four bolts holding down the starter housing. Remove them. Flip the housing upside down to reveal the old rope. Remove it from the starter pulley.
- 3). Measure a new rope at 10 feet and cut it. Place the end of the rope through the hole on the starter pulley. Make a knot at the end that is through the pulley and double knot to ensure its strength.
- 4). Wrap the rope around the starter pulley twice and thread it through the outside hole on the starter house. Replace the starter housing and the plastic cover. Replace the screws.
- 5). Place the remaining end of the rope into the handle through the middle. Grab the end of the rope with pliers and pull it through the side of the handle until there is enough tension in the rope to be used efficiently.
- 6). Tie a double knot in the rope and pull the bottom of the rope to make it tight. Cut off the excess.
- 7). Replace the spark plug wire.
