• The Department of Transportation sponsors the Payments for Small Community Air Service Development program, which provides grants to help airports in small communities improve their services. Grants pay for marketing, advertising and promotional activities as well as consultation and public relations services. Financial incentives such as providing revenue guarantees or subsidies to cover the operating costs of prospective airlines or ground transportation services are also funded by these grants. Hydrologic Research Grant Program

• The Hydrologic Research Grant Program is sponsored by the Department of Commerce, which provides grants for conducting research and development into surface hydrologic conditions. The finding from research activities helps government agencies, public companies and other organizations prepare for drought and flood forecasts. State and local government agencies, federally recognized institutions of higher education, hydrologic consultants and water and power companies are eligible to apply for these grants.

Flood Mitigation Assistance Grants

• The Flood Mitigation Assistance Grants Program is funded by the Department of Homeland Security, which provides grants to reduce or eliminate flood damage to properties insured by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Grants from this program are used to elevate flood prone structures, purchase and relocate at-risk structures. Funds also cover planning, surveying, technical assistance and consulting services.
