Guide Review - Weston Gardens
The inventory includes everything from shade trees to shrubs to antique roses. Perennials and annuals are sorted by their attributes: hummingbird-attracting, butterfly favorites, top plants for sun and shade, tough plants to weather our summers. Herbs, groundcovers, and ornamental grasses will complete the look in any garden.
Four acres are devoted to demonstration gardens on the historic Leon Bandy Estate. Touring these gardens is worth the drive. Formal designs merge with informal gardens for a lovely effect. Architectural features both historical and modern dot the landscape. The demonstration gardens are directly across the street from the nursery.
At least one weekend a month, lectures and events are held at the nursery. The lectures cover everything a Texas gardener might need to know, from xeriscaping (low water use gardening) to antique roses to designing niche gardens. Teas and tours of the stone ship require reservations.
