How to Craft a Onesie into a Bag Holder
- 1). Set a cloth or protective liner over your table to protect it from paint. Squeeze finger paint in a variety of colors onto a paper plate like a pallet. Lay a clean Onesie upside down on the table, and apply finger paint with your child -- creating designs like hearts, stars, trees or smiley faces.
- 2). Turn the Onesie over, and draw a geometric shape on the other side using a marker. Dip a pencil in rubbing alcohol and dot the area. This causes the marker to run and creates a tie-dye effect. Put the Onesie in the dryer for 15 minutes to set the colors. Or allow it to air-dry for a few hours, to avoid leaving behind paint in your dryer.
- 3). Include your older children by asking them to come up with a cute slogan to write on the bag. Give your child a fabric marker to write a slogan, quote or label near the neckline -- where the bags go in the Onesie.
- 4). Glue on rhinestones in a border around the collar or around your painted designs. Items like rhinestones, buttons and beads are choking hazards on children's clothing, but are safe on a bag holder -- since it's kept out of reach.
- 5). Unclip the bottom of the Onesie. Hang it in your kitchen, pantry or laundry room by threading the diaper-area flaps through the bars of a metal shelf and snapping them together. You can also hang the Onesie on a wall with a nail, if you do not have a metal shelf, or clip it to a hanger hung from a nail, shelf, handle or hook. Choose a spot high enough that young children cannot reach the bag holder and where it cannot get knocked onto the floor.
- 6). Stuff plastic bags into what is now the top of the Onesie. The bags should fill the garment like stuffing.
