The designers with deep pockets usually opt for the Apple Macintosh based PCs while the majority buy Windows based PCs. Irrespective of the OS used, a graphic designers needs to ensure that the PC or laptop he is buying has the prerequisites for industry work. Just buying a top end computer may not serve the purpose if it lacks certain attributes required for professional design.
€ A desktop or laptop used for Graphic design related work should have a big screen. This is not a problem with desktops as one can buy monitors with screen sizes of 21 or 23 inch easily. The AIO PCs also offer similar display areas. The laptops fall a tad short in this respect. However, the top end laptops from the stables of brands like Toshiba and HP do feature 17 inch screens. The models with widescreen format screens should be selected by the professionals as they are better for their needs.

€ A multimedia PC should be upgradable. There are some laptops and desktops that come with two hard drives these days. Buying such a PC would ensure that the designers will not run out of storage space. The expensive models also come with SSDs in place of regular rotational hard drives. These models offer a faster boot up time and application responsiveness. The PCs for design should have at least 4 GB of memory. However, the graphic designers should ensure that the PCs they buy have empty RAM slots for memory expansion in future.

€ A multimedia laptop or PC should have enough connectivity options. It is essential to buy a PC for design that has eSATA or USB 3.0 ports. These two ports are meant for blazing fast data transfer. The graphic design professionals often need to transfer large chunks of data from and to the PC. It is also necessary to see that the PC has a HDMI port. This is ideal for connecting the PC to a larger display such as a larger screen LED TV. This can come in handy when a designer needs to give a presentation or show his artworks to others. HDMI is also suitable for importing pictures from digital cameras and video footages from camcorders. Inbuilt Wi-Fi connectivity in the PC also comes in handy for the designers.

€ The graphic design professionals often need to work within tight deadlines and make changes to the ongoing projects for client needs. Therefore, they need a laptop or PC that can be restored in case of some system failure. There are some laptops that come with one touch restore feature in case of OS crash. The computer manufacturers offer 1 or 2 years warranty with their products. A PC with longer warranty should be preferred by the designers.
