Free Live Music: Jungle Boogie Concerts at the St. Louis Zoo
Summer is a great time to see the animals at the St. Louis Zoo. But, if you go on Friday nights, you can also enjoy a little live music at Jungle Boogie. Each year, the Zoo brings in some of the area's most popular musicians for the free concert series.
Jungle Boogie is just one of the many free summer events in St. Louis. For more information, see Free Summer Concerts and Live Music in St. Louis.
When and Where:
Jungle Boogie is held each summer on Friday evenings from the end of May to the end of August. In 2015, the concerts are May 22 through August 28. The free concerts are held at the Schnuck Family Plaza at the center of the Zoo. The performances are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
2015 Schedule of Performers:
May 22 - Butchwax and the Hollywoods
May 29 - Disco Nites featuring Coco Soul
June 5 - My Friend Mike
June 12 - Ticket to the Beatles
June 19 - No Concert Scheduled

Food and Drinks:
Visitors are allowed to bring food and drinks to the concerts. Many also bring blankets or lawn chairs and spread out on the grass near the stage. For those who want to buy food, some of the Zoo's restaurants are also open late on Friday nights, including the Lakeside Cafe and Safari Grill which are right next to the concert area.
Other Things to Do:
The rest of the Zoo is also open until 7 p.m., on Friday nights. That means there's plenty of time to enjoy the music for a while, then take a stroll to see the elephants or zebras. During the summer, it's often much more pleasant to walk around the Zoo in the evenings when the temperature has cooled off. Many of the animals also seem to be more active right before dinner time.
Parking Options:
You can almost always find free parking near the Zoo, if you don't mind a short walk. There's a good amount of street parking along Government Drive on the north side of the Zoo. There's also street parking on Fine Arts Drive heading toward the Art Museum. If you don't mind paying for parking, the Zoo has a North Lot and a South Lot. The South Lot is bigger, but the North Lot is closer to where the Jungle Boogie concerts are held. Parking in the lots is $15 a car.
