The 1980s was a decade of versatility when it came to fashion for men. Styles were individual in their own sense, and you could never go wrong with accessories, whether you were a man or a woman. Musicians like "King of Pop" Michael Jackson and glam metal group Poison were influential when it came to 80s fashion. - The black leather jacket was a symbol of the 1980s.Black Leather coat image by Edward Stephens from Fotolia.com
As music played a large role in 80s fashion, it was not uncommon to see men wearing T-shirts featuring their favorite rock band paired with leather jackets. The "punk" look caught on quickly, as many men turned to jagged cut-off sleeves, chains and black apparel. Black was also commonly paired with neon colors. Oversized jackets with the sleeves rolled up, along with fingerless gloves, had become mainstream. - Ripped jeans, whether bought that way or torn by hand, were a popular trend in the 1980s.Jeans image by Francis Bourgouin from Fotolia.com

High-top shoes such as Chuck Taylors caught on quickly in the 1980s. Shoes were often left unlaced to create a messier look. Bulky hiking boots were also a trend, along with popular name brands like Adidas and Vans. - In the 80s, the Mohawk was often dyed crazy colors.runner with mohawk image by jimcox40 from Fotolia.com
From rainbow hair to Mohawks (sometimes even combined), hair in the 1980s was nothing short of eccentric. Long, layered and often frizzy hair were shoved into the mainstream by musicians and actors who rocked the style. Men often grew their hair out long and used mousse and hair spray to create a voluminous look. Mullets were also popular during the 80s and consisted of short hair in the front and long in the back, often paired with sideburns. In urban communities, chunky gold chains and medallions took over the younger generations.
